What Can Dental Crowns Fix?
There are many reasons a dental crown might be suitable for a patient’s oral health. Dr. Ambis may recommend crowning teeth for the following reasons:
- Stained or discolored
- Severe wear or cavities
- Large dental fillings
- Recent root canal
- Being replaced with an individual dental implant
- Large crack or fracture
Dental crowns can address a host of functional and cosmetic issues. Schedule a consultation with our Ithaca dentist to discover if dental crowns are ideal for you.
The Dental Crown Process
Consultation and Making Room
You’ll first attend a consultation with Dr. Ambis, in which he’ll determine if dental crowns are best suited for your oral health and smile goals. The initial consultation is the best time for you to ask any questions you may have.
Our dentist at Ambis Dental will first numb your tooth with a local anesthetic to prevent any sensitivity. Then he’ll remove a portion of the tooth’s enamel to make room for a crown before taking a dental impression.
Impressions and Fitting
We’ll send this impression to a dental lab as a blueprint for your permanent restoration. In the meantime, you’ll wear a temporary crown to minimize irritation. Once we receive your dental crown, which typically takes two weeks, you’ll return to our Ithaca office for your final fitting. After Dr. Ambis makes any necessary adjustments, he’ll bond the crown to your tooth for a stunning restoration.
